Speaking on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Chris Cowlin discussed the current situation of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli and whether or not he believes the player has a future at Spurs.

Since moving to Tottenham from Milton Keynes Dons in what was a £5.97 million deal back in 2015, Alli has gone on to feature 227 times for Spurs, scoring 63 goals and providing 55 assists along the way.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

However, so far this season, the £46.8 million-rated 24-year-old has often found himself left out of Jose Mourinho’s Premier League squads, making just two appearances in the club’s 2020/21 league campaign thus far – in one of which he was substituted at half time, with the other coming as a 21-minute second-half cameo.

The midfielder was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, in which Cowlin discussed what he believes Alli needs to do to get back into Mourinho’s first-team plans, and whether or not he feels the England international has a future in north London.

In reaction to a question asking whether or not he believed Alli has a future at Spurs, he said: “I believe so and I hope so. We’ve seen what happened with Tanguy Ndombele – we thought he was finished at Tottenham – he’s come back into the team now, [is] one of the first players on the teamsheet.

“I think that Dele Alli just needs to knuckle down. He’s had a couple of appearances in the Europa League for us – [came] on, won the penalty scored the penalty [against Maccabi Haifa]; [he came] on, on Thursday.

“I think that he is in Jose Mourinho’s plans, [the question is] how much game time he’s going to get – and there’s lots of competition, and I tell you what, that is a great thing to have at a football club. Let’s hope that Dele Alli does stay at Tottenham and let’s hope that he can get some game time.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Cowlin’s comments regarding Dele Alli…

From Cowlin’s comments, it is clear that the podcaster is of the belief that Alli is indeed still a part of Mourinho’s plans – as can be seen in his appearances in the Europa League – however, he also believes that the 24-year-old does need to work hard on impressing the manager in training and in his cup appearances in order to prove himself worthy of starting for the club once again in the Premier League.

And with Spurs facing a trip to Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday, should Alli be picked for the squad, it will be interesting to see if the midfielder can take his opportunity.
