Speaking recently on The Athletic’s The View From The Lane podcast, Charlie Eccleshare discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s link with Inter defender, Milan Skriniar and stated that he would not be surprised if a deal for the centre-back gets done.

Moving to Inter from Sampdoria in what was a £30.6 million move back in 2017, Skriniar has gone on to make 128 appearances for I Nerazzurri, chipping in with four goals and providing four assists along the way, prior to his side’s clash with Benevento on 30th September.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Last season, the £45 million-rated 25-year-old was left out of just two of Inter’s Serie A games, forcibly missing another four through suspension and he also played every minute of the club’s Champions League campaign.

However, despite his apparent importance to Antonio Conte’s defence, it was reported earlier in the year that the Italian side would consider selling the Slovak over the summer transfer window, with Tottenham reported to be keen on a move for the 25-year-old.

The club’s potential move for Skriniar is something that was discussed on a recent episode of The View From The Lane podcast, with Eccleshare stating that despite the two clubs currently being some way apart in their valuations of the defender, he would not be shocked if Spurs got the deal over the line.

He said: “What we’ve been told from the very start is that the two clubs are coming at it from very different positions, valuation-wise. Inter were holding out for up to around €60 million, Tottenham wanted to pay a lot less than that.

“Tottenham, ideally, from what I was told, wanted to get him on a loan and then have an option to buy, not even an obligation. So, you are talking about two very different starting points for the negotiations, which is why they’ve been dragging on.

“I am also told that Inter are really struggling financially, so I think there is a hope that that can be preyed on a little bit. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was done and that would suddenly make this a pretty mega transfer window.

“Yeah, I can imagine it happening.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Eccleshare’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that a deal for Skriniar can be done, despite the fact that the clubs still appear to be some way apart in how much they feel the defender is worth.

However, with just a matter of days remaining in the summer transfer market, Spurs certainly need to get a move on if they are to add Skriniar to their defensive ranks prior to the closure of the transfer window.
