On the latest episode of the View from The Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Charlie Eccleshare have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and reflecting on the Lilywhites’ 1-0 win against Burnley on Monday evening.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Cloning Harry Kane and Burnley Reaction‘, was the England captain and his partnership with Heung-Min Son so far this season. The two have now linked up for nine goals in the first six games of the Premier League season, taking their overall league tally to 29, with only former Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard having combined for more goals (36) in Premier League history (per BBC Sport).

Therefore, you can understand the excitement from those on the podcast regarding the duo and their superb start to the season, with Pitt-Brooke in particular full of praise for the two Spurs attackers, saying:

“The Kane and Son partnership continues. This has been, I think probably the story of the season. They destroyed Southampton, they destroyed [Manchester] United. If Spurs hadn’t screwed up in the last 10 minutes against West Ham, we would have spent the subsequent podcast talking about it again there, but of course, things didn’t turn out as they should have done.

“It means that Kane and Son now have 29 goal combinations together in the Premier League, which brings them level with Robert Pires and Thierry Henry, which is obviously one of the all-time great pairings, and David Silva and Sergio Aguero, which is another all-time great pairing.

“The only two ahead of them are Drogba and Lampard. Those three pairs are all associated with great, multi-title-winning teams of the Premier League era, which I think just goes to show just how good they are and there’s no reason to imagine that it’s not going to continue.”

Eccleshare then added his thoughts on the in-form duo, saying:

“In Son and Kane, Spurs have the two most in-form players in the Premier League. That is pretty frightening, to have not just one, but two players who are playing that well and basically scoring and/or assisting every game. Their numbers are ludicrous.”

TIF Thoughts on Pitt-Brooke and Eccleshare’s comments on Son and Kane’s partnership…

Son and Kane have certainly enjoyed a superb start to the Premier League season, with the duo currently sitting first and second respectively in the overall WhoScored ratings for the top-flight season so far.

Do you think Son and Kane will overtake Drogba and Lampard this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The South Korean tops the scoring chart, whilst Kane tops the assist chart, and with so little of the season gone, we see no reason why they can’t improve on their goal contributions total and potentially catch up with Lampard and Drogba’s current winning tally in the near future.
