Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s recent transfer business on the most recent video that has been posted to his YouTube channel and he spent some time talking about the Lilywhites’ signing of Joe Hart during the video.

Hart became a free agent in the summer after his contract with Burnley expired and he subsequently went on to sign a two-year contract with Tottenham in August, seemingly replacing Michel Vorm, who left Spurs when his contract expired in June.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

During this recent YouTube video, Gold talked about Spurs’ signing of Hart. The journalist shared that the former England international is earning less than Vorm was earning at the north London club and he declared that he believes that the 33-year-old’s signing was a “no-brainer” for Spurs.

Here is what Gold had to say about this transfer: “Wages-wise, apparently he’s on less than Michel Vorm was on, so they’ve upgraded – I don’t want to be too disrespectful to Vorm, but I think it still is an upgrade because I think Vorm, unfortunately, a lot of it was due to rustiness, but he just wasn’t at the level Spurs needed anymore and I think Hart is an upgrade on that.

“He’s a younger goalkeeper, he’s probably, you could argue, been at a better level as well, in the past [a] former England international, and like [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, he doesn’t shut up.

“He’s constantly organising the back four, constantly telling people up the pitch what’s happening behind them and stuff like that and actually, he’s had some good performances.

“I wouldn’t say he’s done anything particularly wrong, either, since he’s come in, he’s looked steady enough, made some good saves and I think that’s a good deal.

“I think the Hart one, it kind of got slightly divided opinion, but I do think in terms of fitting the profile Tottenham were looking for at the time – free transfer, less wages than Vorm, home-grown – it’s a bit of a no-brainer, really, and he’s just another voice like that in the changing room who’s won things and demands the most – that can’t be a bad thing.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Gold had to say, in addition to believing that replacing Vorm with Hart was a good deal for Spurs as their new goalkeeper will be earning less than Vorm was earning at Tottenham, the journalist also seems to think that Hart is a better player than Vorm, meaning that Spurs have upgraded their squad while lowering their wage bill.

So far this term, Hart has made two appearances for Spurs, which is already more appearances than Vorm made for the Lilywhites under Jose Mourinho.

With that in mind, perhaps the Spurs boss shares Gold’s opinion that Hart is an upgrade on Vorm and as a result, this may prove to be a good piece of business from the Lilywhites.
