In a brief video for Football.london, Alasdair Gold has delivered an update on the transfer situation at Tottenham Hotspur, ahead of the domestic transfer window closing on Friday.
The main topic of discussion in his video, which can be seen on his Twitter page, was Swansea City defender Joe Rodon. The Lilywhites have been heavily linked with a move for the Welsh international in recent weeks, although it seems as if the Swans’ reported asking price of £20 million is a lot more than Spurs were hoping to pay, which has perhaps reduced the chances of him completing a move to the north London club ahead of Friday’s deadline.
Here’s what Gold had to say about the 22-year-old in his video:
“Only one incoming to potentially talk about, although it’s going to be difficult, Joe Rodon. As I understand it, [the] two clubs, Swansea and Spurs, [are] very far away on their valuations of the player right now, so whether that’s one that’s done before the end of play tomorrow, it’s probably doubtful at the moment.
“The player, I understand, is quite keen to come to Tottenham but Spurs are just not going to pay big money for a 22-year-old, who, albeit is a Wales international, very talented young player but really has not got much experience at the top level at all at the moment. I think he’s played around 50 games in the Championship and obviously has his international appearances but nothing beyond that.”
Gold seems sceptical as to whether a deal between Swansea and Spurs can be agreed before Friday’s deadline, so perhaps we will have to see Spurs try and sign him in the January transfer window, in the hope that they can then have more time to negotiate a lower fee with the Swans.
Will Spurs sign Rodon?
However, with other Premier League sides having also registered an interest in the defender, perhaps if Spurs can’t agree on a fee with the Championship club, they will lose out on him completely.
