Many Newcastle United supporters have flocked to Twitter in order to react to a post by leading sports lawyer Nick De Marco – a member of the Blackstone Chambers firm whom Mike Ashley hired to take on the Premier League in a legal battle regarding the failed takeover of the club.
In the post, he shared a series of images showing the various stages of his oil painting based on a drawing by Evelyn De Morgan of Alessandro De Marco, a 19th-century Italian artists’ model.
In response to the post, here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful responded, linking the painting with figures from the club’s past and in some cases, suggesting it could mean something with regards to the ongoing legal battle involving their club.
Well a painting takes time. Just like a takeover does. Several stages which are nearing completion.
Oil is where the Saudis got their original fortune.
I’m not one to draw conclusions but it’s quite clearly CANS OCLOCK #NUFC #NUFCTakeover #CANS

There’s a bird in a cage trapped, yet to be freed. Like us the MAGPIES
The man is disheveled like us after 14 years of Ashley but has the face and hair of Nikos Papavasiliou indicating a return to Keegan’s glory days.
It’s painted in OIL paints.
This can’t all be a coincidence https://t.co/IDzA5Eqoav

It’s clear from the above responses that many of these supporters think Nick De Marco’s post could be a sign of progress in the legal battle with regards to the failed takeover of the club.
De Marco also posted a picture recently of some bread and Newcastle Brown Ale that many Toon fans thought was also a hint about the takeover, so maybe the lawyer is being very clever or it could have nothing to do with the proposed takeover.
However, in our view, there is nothing to suggest the dispute is any closer to being resolved despite these tweets from De Marco.
