A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Lee Ryder that contains the Premier League’s response to a letter sent to them from the Newcastle Consortium Supporters group.
The letter alleges that not allowing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers is breaking the UK’s anti-competition law.
Ryder confirmed that the Premier League’s response to this letter was ‘no comment‘, before confirming in a follow-up tweet that Mike Ashley backs this legal challenge.
The story regarding the statement has also been tweeted by Jamie Reuben (one of the Reuben brothers) and Mehrdad Ghodoussi (Amanda Staveley’s husband), so it appears to have backing from members of the consortium as well as the Newcastle owner.
Ryder’s post drew these Newcastle fans’ attention, who are not surprised that the Premier League has said nothing.
So, what did these Newcastle fans make of Ryder’s takeover tweet?
That not like them ?

Usually they are so open and honest ??
Hopefully Ashley will push them into a corner where they are forced to respond again

Do you think the Premier League will say anything?
No, they will stay silent
Yes, they might say something
This legal challenge, led by two Toon fans, has the backing of some important people, though it remains to be seen whether this will have any effect on the Saudi-backed takeover proposal.
One Toon fan is certainly optimistic about the takeover happening.

The bid from the consortium was initially withdrawn in July before they tried again behind closed doors, but that didn’t work either.
Ashley has since appointed two lawyers to try and force the takeover through, and now this legal challenge has emerged, which the Premier League have refused to comment on.
So, it will be interesting to see where this saga goes now.
