A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Mark Douglas that contains a link to an article in The Chronicle with comments from Jamaal Lascelles.
The Newcastle captain, speaking to NUFC TV via The Chronicle, claimed that the team were ‘upset and angry‘ after they were beaten 4-1 at home by Manchester United despite taking the lead against the Red Devils.
Lascelles then claimed at 1-1 the Toon ‘pushed on too much‘ and instead should have ‘shut up shop.’
These comments have really annoyed many Newcastle fans who can’t believe the lack of ambition shown by their captain.
So, what have these Newcastle fans made of Lascelles’ comments?
Are you annoyed by Lascelles' comments?
Yes, he should not be saying this
No, he is right
I’m sorry but I’m not having this! We were playing against a side low on confidence who had just been done 6-1. Fingers being pointed at their players & manager & we went 1-0 up early enough to really give it to them. This stinks of a Bruce excuse! #nufc

Defeatist attitude stemming from and defeatist captain and defeatist manager. Appalling

Dear god….what hope have we got if your captain is coming out with such negative thoughts

This is even more alarming and shocking than Bruce’s comments ?

Coming into this match, Manchester United had just lost 6-1 to Tottenham Hotspur in their previous Premier League match and had won only one of their first three league games.
Newcastle then got the early goal, but they allowed the Red Devils to come back into the game and conceded 28 shots, of which 14 were on target, so Karl Darlow was a busy man.
Yes, Newcastle forced David de Gea into one excellent save with an effort from Callum Wilson but to suggest that the Toon ‘pushed on too much‘ seems an odd thing to say considering Newcastle managed just seven shots in the whole game and had 36% possession.
It is no wonder then that these Newcastle fans are annoyed at these comments from Lascelles.
And this is the the result of Bruce’s tactics and man management.. Lascelles has the ability to be at least on the fringes of the current England team but his boss has no confidence in him or anyone else against a mediocre team

Bruce’s negative, inferior mentality is starting to worm its way into the players.
Very, very worrying.

Looks like Bruce’s clueless approach to tactics is passing over to Big Jamal!

Overall, it seems as if Lascelles’ comments have not gone down well with many Toon fans who clearly want to see their captain show more ambition.
