A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from NUFC 360, which has comments from Jonjo Shelvey that have left them confused after the Toon beat Newport County on penalties in the Carabao Cup.
The 28-year-old speaking to NUFC TV (via The Chronicle) claimed that two or three years go, the Toon would have just tried lumping the ball into the box but that Bruce wants his side to try and play football.
This has stunned these Toon fans who can’t believe what they are hearing.
Should Shelvey have said anything?
No, don't know why he said that
Yes, he is right
He must be in denial???

Has to be trolling. We average more long balls now. We literally lumped it to Carroll for most of this game. ‘the gaffa wants us to play’ err ok?

Losing respect for shelvey, as been stated he likes Bruce as guaranteed a start each week no matter how he plays #bruceout

Newcastle needed a late stunner from Shelvey to save their Carabao Cup campaign before Newcastle scraped through on penalties, but it was widely accepted that the Toon didn’t play well.
So, Shelvey’s claims seem odd and seem to be a dig at former manager Rafael Benitez, who didn’t use Shelvey much during the 2018/19 season.
These comments continued to draw the attention of these Toon fans who can’t believe what the former Liverpool man said.
? thriving under a manager who allows him to walk about rather than a manager who demands players to run. Part of the problem

That’s genuinely unbelievable #nufc

Never seen a player so desperate for a manager to stay so he can continue to be lazy and still play every week.

What planet is Shelvey living on different one to me and sure a lot of other fans.

Newcastle had plenty of shots and ten on target against the League Two side but could not score more than one goal and needed Brandon Cooper to sky his penalty to see Newcastle through to the next round.
However, it as not just against Newport where the Toon haven’t been great as in three league games, they have managed just three shots on target.
So, judging by his comments, Shelvey thinks that Bruce getting his team to “play” is having just three shots on target in three league games.
So, you can see why these Toon fans are annoyed with these comments, and judging by the reaction, you could argue they were unwise.
