Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

One of the main topics of discussion was the Newcastle Consortium Supporters’ legal challenge with regards to Project Big Picture proposals and the failed takeover of Newcastle which collapsed in the summer. Kennedy suggested what kind of information the Premier League would have to provide.

However, he is unconvinced that the league will supply the correspondence required because he is not sure the Premier League wants any of it to come out in the open. Despite his scepticism, Kennedy confirmed that the Premier League must respond ‘sufficiently’ by 4pm on November 3rd, upon which point matters could be taken further.

He said: “Do the Premier League really want to open their doors to all of the stuff that has gone on recently?

“The [Project Big Picture], the [supposed talks with] the ‘big six’ – do they really want to be opening their doors to these kinds of conversations, and that’s what we are talking about here in disclosure.

“We are talking about WhatsApp messages, we’re talking about emails, we’re talking about internal [and] external [correspondence] – we’re talking about everything.

“Do the Premier League really want those conversations coming out that they might have had with Liverpool, might have had with Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, whoever?

“Are the Premier League prepared to open their doors for everybody to see what’s been going on?”

Do you think the Premier League will respond?

No, they won't

No, they won't

Yes, they will

Yes, they will

TIF Thoughts on Kennedy’s details of the legal challenge…

This seems like a significant step for the proposed takeover, and it also has the backing of Mike Ashley, which could be considered important.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League does supply the group with the information they have requested or if they ignore it.

When the takeover was withdrawn, Amanda Staveley claimed that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were strongly against the takeover, and if the Premier League provides the group with the information they want, then we could find out if this was true or not.

This takeover saga has been going on since April, and maybe with this legal challenge, a conclusion is edging ever nearer.
