Cole had left Newcastle in January 1995 to join Manchester United for a fee of £8.64 million. He had initially joined Newcastle from Bristol City in March 1994. He went on to play for Portsmouth and Manchester City as well (as per Transfermarkt).

Cole’s exit to Man Utd had come after the striker had a row with Kevin Keegan, who was managing the Magpies at that point. Some other Newcastle fans also talked about their former striker.

These Toon fans have a mixed reaction about Cole and his Newcastle exit. Some of them regret the fact that the club sold the Englishman, while the others don’t believe that selling him was a mistake.

Cole has been inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame already, as he scored 68 goals in just 84 matches for the Magpies. He had also scored 41 goals in just 46 appearances in the club’s maiden Premier League campaign (as per Chronicle Live).

That is a reflection of the impact that Cole made at St. James’ Park and considering those contributions, it is a bit sad that his exit from the club came after a row with Keegan and it seems as if some fans are still disturbed by it.
