Many Newcastle United fans have been discussing the club’s links with a move to sign Juventus central defender Daniele Rugani.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla recently reported that Newcastle are showing concrete interest in signing Rugani and the Magpies could make a loan offer with the obligation to buy him permanently.

Valencia had also made an offer for the Italian, but they had offered a ‘dry loan’ for him – something which the Bianconeri are not keen on.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

A tweet involving this update was relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360 recently. It caught the attention of many Newcastle fans and they made their opinion very clear.

Should Newcastle sign Rugani?

The report also claims that Rugani can leave Juve this summer and West Ham United and Rennes also hold an interest in the former Empoli man.

The Magpies have also been linked with moves for Manchester United defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling (via 90min). Some other Toon fans also discussed the club’s links with a move to sign Rugani.

Some of these Newcastle fans would like to see their club sign Rugani this summer, but a couple of them believe that the club won’t sign the Italian.

The 26-year-old made ten Serie A appearances for Juve last season and picked up a disappointing average rating of only 6.41.

In the 2018/19 campaign, he made 15 league appearances for the Old Lady and picked up a rating of 6.84 (as per Whoscored). As many as 12 Juve players picked up better ratings than him in the 2018/19 Serie A campaign.

Going by his ratings over the last two seasons, Rugani does not exactly seem an impressive defender and he hasn’t played regular first-team football either.

So, this move may not be as impressive as these Toon fans seem to believe.
