A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust chair Alex Hurst that contains a selection of Premier League games from this year (2020).

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

The games selected show that Newcastle have conceded a total of [162] shots in eight selected matches against Chelsea (19), Everton (17), Norwich City (19), Arsenal (15), Crystal Palace (18), Manchester City (23), Tottenham Hotspur (23) and Manchester United (28).

So, whilst Hurst’s stat looks to be slightly off, as they conceded a total of 162 shots rather than the 186 he suggested in his tweet, it can still be argued that these are shocking statistics, and in those selected games, the Toon only won one and were thumped by Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

So, there are clearly some problems for the Toon to deal with, and these Newcastle fans are fuming at these statistics.

Are you concerned by these statistics?

Yes, awful stuff

Yes, awful stuff

No, they were just bad games

No, they were just bad games

So, what did these Newcastle fans make of these statistics?

Last season in the Premier League, the Toon’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made the most saves in the league.

This season Karl Darlow has made the most saves in the league, and when you look at the number of shots conceded in just those eight games, it shouldn’t really be a surprise to see why Darlow and Dubravka have been so busy.

This post continued to draw the attention of angry Newcastle fans.

Despite these alarming statistics, Newcastle finished last season in 13th place and are currently 12th, ahead of Monday’s fixtures, so they comfortably stayed up last year, and this season they are currently clear of the relegation zone as well.

However, you would think that the Toon will have to find a way to stop teams from having so many shots at them as it could be argued that it is unsustainable for that to keep happening.

Certainly, these Newcastle fans have had enough of it.
