Football journalist John Cross has labelled Manchester United’s transfer pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as “embarrassing” for the club.

This comes after Cross recently made an appearance on a transfer deadline day video from The Daily Mirror’s YouTube channel where he discussed the latest transfer-related news stories across the Premier League.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

On the subject of United’s pursuit of Sancho, Cross had this to say on the matter and why he thinks it’s embarrassing.

He said: “Why I think it’s embarrassing is that basically, you should know your market well enough to know Jadon Sancho’s position, Borussia Dortmund’s position, and you should not then, I don’t think, spend the whole summer going for Sancho when fundamentally, if Dortmund [are] saying, ‘we are not taking a penny less for this player than £110 million,’ then they mean it.

“That’s their strategy, always has been. Then, basically, if another club says it, you should know the market well enough to say, ‘Yeah, but they’ll crack and they’ll come through late in the window.’

“So, I’m afraid to say if you don’t think that Sancho is worth that money, you look elsewhere.”

The 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £105.3 million, has made a total of 102 appearances for Dortmund in which he has managed to score 35 goals and provide 45 assists since he arrived at the club back in 2017 from Manchester City.

The Englishman was Dortmund’s best player last season after picking up a season rating of 7.64/10 for his performances in the 32 Bundesliga appearances he made for the club (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Given how impressive Sancho was for Dortmund last season, it’s understandable why United are so desperate to add him to their ranks at Old Trafford.

With the current summer transfer window set to close later tonight, it’ll be interesting to see if United manage to work out a deal with the German club that would see Sancho make a return to England.
