ESPN‘s Alejandro Moreno has been discussing Manchester United’s transfer deadline day signing of Edinson Cavani and shared his concerns regarding the 33-year-old.

The Uruguayan has joined the Premier League club on a one-year deal and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have the option to extend the player’s stay by a further year (as per Sky Sports). Cavani previously represented Paris Saint-Germain, for whom he scored 200 goals and provided 43 assists in 301 appearances (as per Transfermarkt).

Although the forward’s goalscoring record in France was impressive, Moreno has other concerns, one of which is the player’s injury record. Here is what he had to say after being asked how many goals he will grab at Old Trafford:

“Fitness is an issue for me and it has been over the last few seasons with Cavani. There is a history of injury.

“In the end, this is about goals. [I predict] 10 goals.

“Let’s not forget that Edinson Cavani at one point was rumoured to be going to Inter Miami, that is sort of the market that was opening for Cavani.

“It feels sort of a desperate move by Manchester United.”

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear from Moreno’s comments that he’s not convinced with regards to Cavani’s ability to stay fit, however, he did predict the player could score 10 goals.

This isn’t too bad, especially as Moreno does not think that Cavani will necessarily be first-choice for the Red Devils, casting doubt over whether Manchester United would consider the striker to be their ‘main guy‘ up top.

Manchester United recently suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of their former boss Jose Mourinho when his Tottenham Hotspur side left Old Trafford with a 6-1 victory (as per BBC Sport). With the recent acquisitions of Cavani and Alex Telles from FC Porto, the fans will be hoping for an improved display in their next Premier League fixture versus Newcastle United.
