One topic that Castles and Ian McGarry spent some time on was Kylian Mbappe’s future after they revealed that the Frenchman is going to interview clubs to help him decide where he wants to move next summer.
The 21-year-old has told PSG that he wants to leave the club next summer, and it looks like he is now putting his plans in place.
The clubs that Mbappe is interested in moving to include Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona (6:35), but there is no mention of Manchester City.
However, Castles revealed that he expects City to be in the running for Mbappe next summer.
It seems as if Castles thinks that City will be involved in the battle for Mbappe’s signature and, in his view, they need to sign a top-class striker because Sergio Aguero’s time at the top is running out.
He said: “I would fully expect Manchester City to be involved and interested; it’s obvious that they have to improve [their] striker because Sergio Aguero’s time is coming to an end and they haven’t been happy with Gabriel Jesus.
“I would fully expect Manchester City to be involved in this conversation; maybe they [will] have to contact Kylian’s father and ask to have the questionnaire sent to them.”
Do you think City will be in for Mbappe?
Yes, we will be interested
No, we will miss out
TIF Thoughts on Castles’ view of City’s interest in Mbappe…
The battle for Mbappe, who is valued at £162m by Transfermarkt, could be quite fierce considering in 128 games for PSG he has scored 94 goals and provided 55 assists, while he also won the World Cup with France in 2018.
Liverpool are mentioned as a club that would be a strong option for Mbappe (10:36), and given that the Frenchman has publicly praised them and Jurgen Klopp, you can see why the Reds have to be considered a strong contender.
However, it is clear that Castles thinks City will be involved, so we will just have to see if they do make a move for Mbappe or not.
