Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has been sharing some details on Reds winger Xherdan Shaqiri and his current situation at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Addison recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a range of different topics concerning the club at this moment in time.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

On the subject of Shaqiri, who was linked with a move away from the Reds throughout the recent summer transfer window, Addison had this to say on the winger’s current situation.

He said: “Xherdan Shaqiri, valued at £20 million as well, similar sort of price tag to Marko Grujic we believe, and there was interest in him from Germany and Italy.

“Lazio were interested earlier in the transfer window – whether it was them who came back to the table, I’m not too sure – but certainly, Germany and Italy were the two places where clubs were interested in him, but no bids ultimately arrived and Xherdan Shaqiri now is here as well.

“I think it’s certainly not as much of an issue for Liverpool that he is still here as Grujic and [Harry] Wilson – you can see Shaqiri potentially being on the bench fairly regularly.”

Liverpool signed Shaqiri from Stoke City back in the 2018 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £13.23 million.

Since then, the 28-year-old has made a total of 42 appearances for the Reds in which he has scored eight goals and provided five assists.

So far this season, the winger has only made one appearance for Liverpool which came in their 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup where he managed to grab himself a goal.

Unfortunately for Shaqiri, who is currently valued at £14.4 million, he has suffered a few injuries since he arrived at the Merseyside club.

TIF Thoughts…

Given how Shaqiri, who allegedly earns £80k per week (as per Spotrac), has only made one appearance for Liverpool so far this season and didn’t leave the club before the summer transfer window deadline, it’s probably likely that the winger won’t see much game time for the Reds this season.
