Speaking on a recent episode of the Blood Red podcast, Matt Addison discussed Liverpool’s upcoming clash with their Merseyside rivals, Everton.

Following a summer in which they landed the signings of Ben Godfrey from Norwich City, Allan from Napoli, Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford and James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, amongst others, Everton have flown out of the blocks in the 2020/21 season.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

Carlo Ancelotti’s side has won all four of their league fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion, leaving them top of the Premier League table, as well progressing to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, following victories against Salford City, Fleetwood Town and West Ham United.

Meanwhile, Liverpool too enjoyed a fine start to their season, defeating Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal in their opening three league fixtures.

However, having already lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield, the Gunners then also knocked out the Reds in the Carabao Cup fourth round, while, in the club’s most recent league fixture, Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a highly surprising 7-2 loss against Aston Villa.

As such, going into the first Merseyside derby of the season this weekend, it would appear that Everton are the more in-form team between the two, however, Addison recently claimed on the Blood Red podcast that he feels Liverpool have what it takes to ruin their rival’s perfect start to the season.

He said: “Liverpool have proven they can do it against teams who are in form, teams who have made decent starts the season themselves, and certainly Everton are in that bracket.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game, but as long as Liverpool play the way that they can play, they will win that match.

“I think, with it being at Goodison Park with no supporters as well, that probably plays into Liverpool’s hands a little bit, too.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Addison’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Liverpool are indeed still the better side in the fixture, and that if the Reds play to the best of their ability on Saturday, they will leave Goodison Park will all three points.

However, whether or not Addison is correct in his prediction, as it would seem likely many fans of the club would like him to be, we will simply have to wait and see.
