Liverpool journalist James Pearce has revealed some details on Rhian Brewster’s recent transfer to Sheffield United.

This comes after Pearce recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Liverpool-themed podcast The Red Agenda where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Merseyside club.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

On the subject of Brewster’s recent move to the Blades, Pearce had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Ideally, I think [Jurgen] Klopp would have kept hold of him and probably worked with him on the training field and try to iron out some of those rough edges, because I think it was telling back in the summer when Brewster scored a few goals in pre-season that Klopp talked about [that] no one’s ever questioned his finishing, it’s those elements of his game that he needs to work on, and I think that was why he still found himself below [Roberto] Firmino, below [Takumi] Minamino in the pecking order.

“He [Brewster] wanted this deal and I just think when you look at the way that Klopp has operated in his five years at Liverpool as well, I just don’t think it ever really sits right with him keeping hold of someone who is keen to get away.”

The striker, who is currently valued at £4.86 million, joined Chris Wilder’s side earlier this month on a five-year contract for a club-record fee of £23.5 million (per BBC Sport).

Last season, Brewster joined Championship side Swansea City on a loan deal in the previous January transfer window until the end of the 2019/20 season. During his time at Swansea, the striker managed to score 11 goals in 22 appearances before returning to Liverpool.

Overall, the 20-year-old made just four appearances for the Liverpool first team and failed to score a goal or provide an assist in any of those appearances (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

If Brewster didn’t feel like he was going to get much playing time at Liverpool, it’s no surprise that he wanted to make the move to Sheffield United if he felt that he was going to be playing regular football there.
