Adam Pope of the BBC recently joined the panel on the Leeds United focused podcast, The Roaring Peacock to discuss a variety of topics with regards to the Yorkshire-based club.

Although the podcast was recorded prior to the victory over Aston Villa, it was released on Monday and one of the subjects discussed was Barry Douglas who recently left the Whites to sign for Blackburn Rovers (as per BBC Sport).

The Scottish left-back signed for the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in July 2018 in a deal reportedly worth £3.06m (as per Transfermarkt). During his time at Elland Road, Douglas made 44 appearances for the club, contributing five assists in that time.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

Leeds United’s director of football Victor Orta wrote an open letter to the 31-year-old that was published via the club’s website and when discussing that, along with Douglas’ Leeds career in general, here is what Pope had to say:

“I think it’s really good that they pointed out the fact that he did carry on with half a leg against Millwall, that was excellent.

“But I think if you’re being really objective, he did have a few horror shows as well, unfortunately, and quite often Leeds were caught over the top of him a few times, but going forward, I thought he had a great disguised diagonal pass, something that Charlie Taylor had in his locker to be fair, but yeah, it’s just a real shame. I’m really surprised that he’s not had a Premier League game, to be quite honest.”

TIF Thoughts on Adam Pope’s comments regarding Barry Douglas…

Although it’s clear from Pope’s comments that he felt Douglas’ displays in a Leeds shirt were not always perfect, you get the feeling from the tone with which the player was discussed that he was a very popular figure amongst not only the fans but with those who cover the club closely.

He was limited to just 15 appearances in the Championship last season for Marcelo Bielsa’s title winners and was yet to feature in the Premier League for the Whites (as per Transfermarkt). Taking all of that into account, you can understand why a move away might have been the best thing for all parties, although, judging by his send-off, he will no doubt be missed.
