A lot of Leeds United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Whites fan and journalist James Marshment in which he discussed Brighton and Hove Albion’s reported £50m valuation of Ben White.
Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have been linked with a move for White with Virgil van Dijk set to spend a ‘lengthy’ amount of time on the sidelines due to injury, however, it has been claimed that the Merseyside club would have to pay £50m to prise the 23-year-old centre-back from Brighton.
White spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Leeds United and he played every minute of their title-winning Championship campaign last term. The Yorkshire-based club went on to bid as much as £25m for the defender during the summer but they were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts to bring White to Elland Road on a permanent basis.
So, how did these Leeds United fans react to Marshment’s tweet discussing Brighton’s valuation of Ben White?
Just reading that Brighton (allegedly) now value Ben White at £50m in the face of renewed interest from Liverpool.
Not religious but…. this is the football equivalent of turning water into wine. A relative nobody into a £50m player in just 12 months….

Some Leeds fans replied to Marshment’s tweet to bring up the importance of the role that they think their club played in increasing White’s valuation to this level.
Leeds should get 50% of that. Brighton’s only contribution to his value was loaning him to Leeds in the first place. #madeinleeds

Meanwhile, some other Leeds fans replied to this post to share that they don’t think White has performed as well in the 2020/21 campaign for Brighton as he did last season for Leeds.
hes average without bielsa

Has he played every minute in ever game to say his price goes up. No his not the layer he was when at Leeds. Lucky if they get 15mil never mind 50

Is White worth £50m?
YES
NO
Understandably he’s playing at a higher level but he doesn’t look anywhere near the player he was for us under Bielsa

He’s gone backwards since returning to Brighton.

White has appeared in all of Brighton’s five Premier League games so far this term and he has earned an overall WhoScored rating of 6.64 from those appearances, making him Brighton’s ninth-highest rated player in the league.
Leeds fans continued replying to this tweet to indicate that they don’t think White has proven that he is worth £50m.
Based on his performances this season he is no where near a £50M player ? we were been generous offering £25M

The fact they know Liverpool are desperate is the only reason. Bens good, but Koch has shown he’s not £50M good.

So, judging by these Leeds fans’ replies to this tweet, it certainly seems as though plenty of them aren’t so sure that this is a reasonable valuation of the English centre-back.
