Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show and he has been talking about the collapse of the deal to bring Michael Cuisance to Elland Road.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

The Whites agreed a fee and a buy-back clause with Bayern Munich earlier this week and the Frenchman arrived for his medical, but according to Hay, he failed his medical and the deal is now off.

There had been claims that there were problems over the buy-back clause and the structure of the deal, but it seems as if Leeds were unsure about some potential medical issues and pulled the plug.

It seems as if the Whites were worried that if Cuisance required any time out of the team because of a medical issue with one of his feet, he would struggle to get back up to speed to play in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

He said: “Our understanding is that there are issues with the medical.

“In Leeds’ eyes he’s failed it, there are problems with it that they’re too concerned about to push ahead with this.

“They were concerned that if there were any lingering side effects from this, if there was a greater problem that required him to have time out or to have surgery, then he was potentially going to be looking at a period out of the team.

“We know how difficult it is to get up to speed under Bielsa at the best of times, and I think essentially [they] got cold feet [on Thursday].”

TIF Thoughts…

Cuisance is a versatile player and has international experience with France’s Under-20 side, but it seems as if Leeds saw something in his medical that put them off, and the Frenchman will not be joining the Whites in this transfer window.

It is unclear if Leeds will try and sign someone else now, but they don’t have that long left in the window if they are to make another addition, so we will just have to see what happens there.

However, it looks like Leeds thought Cuisance was too big a risk to take, and he won’t be moving to Elland Road now.
