The Athletic reporter Phil Hay has recently made a claim regarding Leeds United’s Scottish full-back Barry Douglas.

Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit secured the services of the left-sided defender from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer of 2018 for a £3.06m fee (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, Douglas has gone on to make 44 appearances for the Whites in which he has failed to score but has provided five assists for teammates.

So far this season, the 31-year-old defender has not featured in a single matchday squad in the Premier League, however, he did play the full match in the club’s Carabao Cup defeat against Hull City.

In the build-up to Leeds’ clash with Wolves next Monday, Hay appeared on The Athletic’s Wolves podcast, The Molineux View, and made a claim regarding Douglas.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

He said: “There is interest in Douglas. Watford are very keen, Blackburn have spoken about him as well.

“I think on the basis that he didn’t make the 18 for the game against [Manchester] City, which Jack Harrison was missing because he was ineligible, and Bielsa’s choice on the bench and the substitute that he used was Leif Davis – a young academy player – I think if, in those circumstances, Douglas isn’t making the 18, you kind of know that he’s on his way.

“His contract is up at the end of this season and I think it’s fair to assume that there’s going to be a parting of ways there.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Hay had to say, he seems to believe that the full-back will be leaving Elland Road at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Seemingly, that departure could be when his contract expires next summer, before the domestic transfer window closes on Friday to an EFL club or sometime in January.

Would you mind if Leeds United sold Barry Douglas?

If the 31-year-old full-back does leave the Whites in a transfer to another club, with a market value of £1.8m and his contract up next year, it would be interesting to see how much the club could get for him.
