The Athletic’s Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has recently discussed the Whites’ dealings during the previous transfer window.

During the extended summer window, Marcelo Bielsa’s side forked out a whopping £96.1m on securing the arrival of seven players on a permanent basis (per Transfermarkt).

Those deals included the £27m signing of Rodrigo from Valencia, the £18m arrival of Diego Llorente from Real Sociedad, £16.72m on Raphinha from Stade Rennais and £11.7m on Robin Koch from SC Freiburg.

Fees were also paid for Joe Gelhardt, Illan Meslier and Helder Costa, while Jack Harrison was brought in on loan once again from Manchester City.

During the latest episode of The Athletic’s Wolverhampton Wanderers podcast, The Molineux View, Hay made an appearance and discussed the club’s recent transfer business, comparing the clubs’ respective fortunes amid their recent promotions to the top flight.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

He said: “For a newly-promoted side, there isn’t a lot in the way of chinks in the armour.

“I always felt when Wolves came up, that the big advantage they had was that they were coming up with [Diogo] Jota, [Ruben] Neves and [Willy] Boly.

“You know, players who looked like Premier League class in the Championship. I think Leeds have come up from the Championship without that.

“But what they’ve done is, they’ve added Rodrigo and they’ve signed Robin Koch and they’ve taken Llorente and also now Raphinha from Rennes.

“So, I think, in this transfer window, they’ve managed to add a little bit of the kind of quality aspects that Wolves had, and I think it has elevated their dressing room to a different level.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Hay had to say, he believes that the Whites’ recruitment over the recent transfer window has taken the squad to “a different level”.

With the Whites currently sat in eighth place in the Premier League table after having won two and drawn one of their opening four games (per BBC), it would appear that Leeds’ squad is up to the standard of the Premier League.

Hopefully, over the remainder of the top-flight campaign, Bielsa and his side can continue to show they can cut it at the highest level of English football.
