Tom Moore, from Everton-focused fanzine The Black Watch, appeared on a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast and he spent some time talking about Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the show.

Pickford has played the full 90 minutes in all of Everton’s first five games of the 2020/21 Premier League season. Only two Premier League teams have conceded fewer goals than the Toffees’ total of seven this term, however, you could argue that they would’ve conceded even fewer goals of late if not for Pickford making errors.

As per an article that was published by the Daily Mail at the beginning of this month, the 26-year-old goalkeeper has made more errors leading to goals than any other stopper since his arrival at the Merseyside club in 2017.

While discussing the England international during this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, Moore shared some concern about the Toffees ‘keeper and suggested that he has “declined” in recent years.

He said: “We’re kind of divided as a fanbase on Pickford. He’s capable of the sublime but also the ridiculous. I think one of the things, personally, that kind of worries me a little bit with him is that when he first joined from Sunderland, the first season or two, okay, we weren’t anywhere near the Champions League spaces – but he looked like a great goalkeeper.

“I actually think he’s kind of declined a little bit since then. Probably since maybe he performed well for England at the World Cup – the last two seasons.

“I think it’s a position that the club will probably be looking to strengthen if the current mistakes continue.”

TIF Thoughts on what Moore had to say about Pickford…

Judging by what Moore had to say during this recent podcast appearance, it’s clear that he thinks the Toffees stopper has begun to decline over the last couple of seasons, which may be particularly concerning when you consider that he is still only 26 years old, which isn’t particularly old, especially for a goalkeeper, whose position has been described as the least ‘age-sensitive’ one in football.

However, perhaps this also suggests there is still time for Pickford to get out of this slump and so, hopefully, for the £23.4m-rated Everton man, he can stop making the relatively high number of errors that he has been making for the Toffees and put an end to the concern over his ability.
