The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe and Patrick Boyland discussed all things Everton on the latest edition of Toffees-focused podcast Gwlad Tidings and they spent some time talking about Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his current form during the show.

As per WhoScored, Calvert-Lewin has been the Merseyside club’s best player in the Premier League so far this season, with the stats website giving him an impressive overall rating of 8.38 in England’s top flight this term.

To kick off this quiz on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, what is his current squad number for the Toffees?

In his five appearances for Everton in all competitions this season, the £21.6m-rated striker has scored an impressive total of eight goals, with three of them coming in his most recent appearance for the club – a 4-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham United on Wednesday.

During this recent edition of Gwlad Tidings, Boyland shared his thoughts on how excited Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti sounded about the 23-year-old Englishman’s form following that midweek win over the Irons.

He said: “We spoke to him after the game against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night – we spoke to Ancelotti about [Calvert-Lewin], I should say.

“Ancelotti – never one to get too effusive normally, in my opinion, he’s quite understated and he likes to keep people in check and manage expectations and all those kind of things.

“I was really surprised when he described Calvert-Lewin as being ‘on fire’ – way more effusive than he normally is but I think that’s about right.

“I think sometimes we get too wrapped up in the cynicism and looking to be cautious with Everton because we’ve been burned so many times before by false dawns but even Carlo’s getting a little bit giddy over Calvert-Lewin’s form.”

TIF Thoughts…

In addition to being Everton’s top goalscorer in all competitions for the 2020/21 season at present, Calvert-Lewin is currently the joint-top scorer in England’s top flight for the 2020/21 campaign.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that he has played a significant role in the Toffees’ flawless start to the campaign and it mightn’t be too surprising that his manager has been pleased by the player’s impressive form.

Hopefully, for the Toffees and Calvert-Lewin, the 23-year-old can keep up his impressive goalscoring performances as the season progresses and perhaps better his total of 15 goals in all competitions for the 2019/20 season before too long.
