Speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed Everton’s reported interest in Chelsea centre-back, Fikayo Tomori, as well as naming another of the club’s supposed targets in the position.

It was reported in mid-September that that Everton manager, Carlo Ancelotti, would like to sign another centre-back prior to the transfer window’s closure on Monday, due to the fact that two of his current options in the position, Jarrad Branthwaite and Mason Holgate, are both sidelined by injury.

Chelsea defender Tomori is one player who the Italian manager is said to be keen on, however, Frank Lampard has stated that he ‘doesn’t have any intention‘ of letting the £14.4 million-rated 22-year-old leave the club in the current transfer window.

Despite this fact, Romano appears to be of the belief that Everton are indeed still working on a deal to sign the England international, as, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, he said:

“They want Tomori, they really want Tomori. If you talk [to] some agents who are working on different [options at] centre-back for Everton, they say Everton want Tomori, they are trying for Tomori.

“In this moment, it is really, really difficult because Chelsea are considering [selling Antonio] Rudiger, not Tomori. So, it won’t be easy, in my opinion, to sign Tomori, but [until] the last days [of the transfer window] Everton will try for him.

“So, we [will] have to see what will happen with Everton, but [their] main target was Kurt Zouma. They wanted Kurt Zouma back, he [had] a good season on loan [at] Everton, now he’s back at Chelsea.

“In my opinion, he is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, he’s having a good start [to the] season, so it’s absolutely impossible that Chelsea will sell Zouma to Everton [in the] last days [of the transfer market].”

TIF Thoughts…

From Romano’s comments, it would certainly appear as if the journalist is of the belief that the club will be trying their hardest to get a deal for Tomori over the line prior to the transfer deadline on Monday.

Romano also states that the club was interested in Tomori’s teammate at Chelsea, and former Everton loanee, Kurt Zouma, however, he believes this deal would appear to be incredibly unlikely.

As such, we will simply have to wait and see whether or not Ancelotti gets a deal done for Tomori, or indeed, any other targets he may have at centre-back, in the coming days.
