Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry discussed all things Premier League on the most recent edition of The Transfer Window podcast and during the show, they spent some time talking about how much James Rodriguez will earn following his recent move to Everton.

As per Transfermarkt, Rodriguez joined the Toffees from Real Madrid on a free transfer last month and it may be fair to say that he has started life at the Merseyside club positively, scoring three goals, providing two assists and earning an overall WhoScored rating of 8.41 in his first four appearances for the Toffees in England’s top-flight.

To kick off this quiz on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, what is his current squad number for the Toffees?

Here is what Castles had to say about the deal that brought the Colombian to Goodison Park during this recent edition of The Transfer Window podcast: “I think one [of Everton’s recent signings] in particular has the potential to be an outstanding deal, and that’s James Rodriguez, who they managed to get for no transfer fee.

“His wages are substantial – I’m told they are over €6m net per season, so [he’s] easily the highest earner at Everton, but they’ve got him for three years; if you push those wages out over the course of the three years, you’re talking about a £40m commitment, and [in] recent Premier League transfer windows, we’ve seen mediocre defenders being bought for £40m before even factoring the wages in.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by what Castles had to say, while he believes that Rodriguez’s wages at Everton are “substantial,” he also seems to think that the player may prove to be worth what the Toffees are paying him, with the journalist sharing that he believes the Merseyside club’s signing of Rodriguez “has the potential to be an outstanding deal.”

As per WhoScored, Rodriguez has been Everton’s best player in the Premier League this season, so with that in mind, it may be fair to say that he is justifying his position as the club’s highest earner and if he can build on his impressive start to life at Goodison Park as this season progresses, then maybe this will prove to be a good bit of business from the Toffees.
