Speaking on a recent episode of the HLTCO podcast, Dan Cook discussed Crystal Palace’s interest in Bournemouth striker, Joshua King.

Since moving to Bournemouth from Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer back in 2015, King has gone on to feature 171 times for the club, scoring 50 goals and providing 17 assists along the way.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

However, last season, despite scoring six goals and providing four assists over his 26 Premier League appearances, the £14.4 million-rated 28-year-old could not save the Cherries from suffering relegation to the Championship.

As a result of their relegation, interest has been high in the Norway international over the course of the summer transfer window, with both West Ham United and Crystal Palace said to be keen on ensuring that King enjoys a swift return to Premier League football.

And, the south London side’s interest in the forward was one subject of conversation on a recent episode of the HLTCO podcast, in which Cook gave his opinion as to whether or not he believes King would be a good addition to Roy Hodgson’s squad.

He said: “Josh King is also a target for [Palace] and West Ham. King is someone that, of course, was relegated with Bournemouth. He’s had a relatively prolific time on the south coast with the Cherries, and he’s still seen as someone that could score goals regularly at Premier League level. [He is] someone that has semi-proved himself in the top flight and could do so once again.

“Of course, we are in the market for goalscorers, there’s no hiding the fact that we were goal-shy for the large part of last season and indeed the year before that. [I’m] not necessarily sure that Josh King is the answer to all of our prayers in that sense.”

TIF Thoughts on Dan Cook’s claim regarding West Ham’s interest in Joshua King…

From Cook’s comments, it is clear that he is of the belief that, while King has been “relatively prolific” in his time at Bournemouth, he is not convinced that the forward is the player that Palace should be hanging their hat on as an out and out goalscorer.

However, with Palace still yet to add the permanent signing of a striker to their ranks this summer, the club’s potential move for King is one that we will be keeping a very close eye on over what remains of this domestic only transfer window.
