Podcaster Niall McCaughan has recently made a claim about Aston Villa star Wesley and his abilities as a striker.

McCaughan made an appearance on the latest episode of the Football Social Daily podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Premier League. One club that they talked about was Aston Villa, following their Premier League win over Leicester City recently. McCaughan also talked about the club’s striker Wesley and he believes that the Brazilian isn’t good enough to play in the Premier League.

Wesley joined Villa from Belgian club Brugge in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £22.50 million. He sustained a Cruciate Ligament Rupture in January 2020 and is expected to remain out till January 2021.

McCaughan believes that Wesley isn’t good enough to play for Villa in the Premier League. He said: “I think the issue last season was the recruitment. They just chose the wrong players. Wesley is still injured but I think, when he comes back, is he going to get in ahead of Ollie Watkins? No. Probably not.

“I’ve slagged him off many a time on the podcast before and I’m not going to stop now. I don’t think Wesley’s good enough to play up front in the Premier League.”

TIF Thoughts…

Before succumbing to the injury in the 2019/20 campaign, Wesley played 21 Premier League games for Dean Smith’s men and scored five goals while picking up one assist. The 23-year-old picked up a Whoscored rating of 6.76 in the Premier League because of his performances last season.

He was the club’s sixth-best performing player in the campaign and it shows that he did have a good season and the injury derailed his progress at Villa Park. Aston Villa fans can only hope that the Brazilian returns to action soon and proves that he’s good enough to perform well for the club on a regular basis.
