Aston Villa podcaster Chris Dolan has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Birmingham club signing their on-loan midfielder Ross Barkley on a permanent deal.
This comes after Dolan recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Villa View Podcast where he spoke about a number of different topics concerning Dean Smith’s side.
On the topic of Barkley, who joined Villa last month on a season-long loan deal from fellow Premier League side Chelsea, Dolan had this to say on whether or not he thinks Villa will sign him permanently.
He said: “I think we will sign Barkley. I don’t know the ins and outs with the Barkley loan deal but if we carry on playing the way we’re playing and getting results and he keeps on performing the way he has done in the last two games, I don’t know why he wouldn’t want to stay at Villa because he can become the bigger fish along with Jack [Grealish] in a smaller pond.”
Since arriving at the Birmingham club, Barkley has made two appearances for Villa in the Premier League in which he has managed to grab two goals and earn himself an impressive season rating of 7.96/10 for his performances (per WhoScored).
Since making his Premier League debut back in 2011 for Everton, the Englishman has gone on to make 204 league appearances in which he has managed to score 27 goals and provide 30 assists (per Transfermarkt).

Given how well Barkley has done for Villa during the short period of time he’s been at the club, it’s no wonder that Dolan has been talking about potentially signing the midfielder on a permanent deal when his current loan deal runs out.
If Barkley can continue this good run of form he’s on for Villa, he could well be one of the club’s standout players this season.
