Aston Villa podcaster Chris Dolan has been sharing his thoughts on Emiliano Martinez’s impact on this current Villa side.

This comes after Dolan recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Villa View where he spoke about a number of different topics surrounding the Birmingham club.

On the topic of Martinez, who joined the club during the recent summer transfer window, Dolan had this to say on the shot-stopper.

He said: “I think when you look at the competition for places we have [for goalkeepers] with [Jed] Steer, Martinez and [Tom] Heaton, you feel a bit for Heaton and Steer because Martinez is just [a] Rolls Royce, he really is.

“Even as a fan I mean, you talk about the confidence the back four must have playing in front of him, even as a fan watching, the confidence I have watching Villa knowing he’s our number one, it’s very strange, it’s very bizarre, he’s just so assured.

“He doesn’t rant and rave, he’s just a very calming influence. 10 years at Arsenal he’s worked his way for the last 10 years to this moment and no one deserves it more than he does.”

Villa signed the Argentine from fellow Premier League side Arsenal for a fee of £15.66 million. Since arriving at the club, Martinez has played in all four of Villa’s Premier League games so far this season and earned himself an impressive season rating of 7.35/10 (per WhoScored).

Throughout those four appearances, Martinez, who is currently valued at £10.8 million has only conceded two goals which came in Villa’s 7-2 thrashing of Liverpool (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Chris Dolan’s comments on Martinez…

It’s great to hear this praise Dolan has for Martinez, who he clearly values at Villa and recognises the impact he has on the team, particularly the defensive line.

So far, Martinez seems to have been a wise investment for the Birmingham club. Hopefully, he can continue to do well at the club and help them avoid conceding 67 league goals again like they did in their previous league campaign.
