Gregg Evans has been speaking on the latest edition of the 1874 Aston Villa podcast by The Athletic, and he has been talking all things Aston Villa.

First up in this quiz on Gabriel Agbonlahor, how old is the former Villa man?

One of the topics that came up was Ollie Watkins, and it is clear that Evans is a big fan of the man signed from Brentford for £28m, potentially rising to £33m.

It seems as if Evans is a big fan of Watkins and believes that his teammates are enjoying playing with the 24-year-old, and The Athletic reporter is confident that he will score a lot of goals for the club.

He said: “I think Villa are really onto something with him, I think he’s the real deal, I think that he is going to score a lot of goals for the club.

“I think his teammates are really enjoying playing alongside him because he’s creating space for them, he’s helping them flourish.

“Villa have spent a lot of money on him, but I think over the years he will prove to be good value for money.”

TIF Thoughts on Evans’ view on Ollie Watkins…

Do you agree with Evans?

Yes, he is going to be well worth the fee

No, good start but needs to keep this going

Watkins has had an impressive start to life in the Premier League, having scored three goals in three games and earned an average rating of 8.05 from those games.

He has also scored two goals in the Carabao Cup, so it looks like he is just continuing his form from last season when he scored 26 goals for the Bees.

Villa did spend a lot of money on a player who had only ever played in the Championship and League Two before his move to Villa Park, but you can’t argue with how well he has started.

It will be intriguing to see if the £27 million-rated forward can keep that sort of form up for the rest of the season or if there will be a slight dip.
