Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing the recent performances of Alexandre Lacazette following the club’s narrow defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Sunday evening on a recent YouTube video

Jamie Vardy came on as a second-half substitute for Brendan Rodgers’ side and the forward’s goal proved to be the winner after the Arsenal striker had a goal disallowed and missed a great chance to put his team in front in the first period (as per BBC Sport).

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

According to WhoScored, Lacazette’s performance rating from the aforementioned fixture was a somewhat underwhelming 6.56/10 and the journalist shared his thoughts on the 29-year-old, here is what he had to say:

“There is certainly a problem when it comes to Lacazette at the moment and it’s becoming more and more apparent as the weeks go by that he’s just not the sort of striker that he was a couple of years ago.

“He just doesn’t seem to be at that level anymore, he struggled last season with injuries and then form, he has started this season alright in terms of goalscoring form, he scored three in his first three games but hasn’t scored in four now.

“There is clearly an issue there. The hold-up play which kind of is what he’s in the side for, that’s not really there at the moment at all. He looks sluggish, he looks like he’s lost quite a bit of pace, he seems even more sluggish and ponderous, he’s giving away a lot of fouls.

“It’s becoming a real issue when you’ve got Aubameyang playing out of position, out wide to accommodate Lacazette as a central striker.”

TIF Thoughts on what Charles Watts had to say about Alexandre Lacazette…

It’s clear from Watts’ comments that he feels Mikel Arteta needs to consider how his side line up in the attacking positions with the Gunners managing just one attempt on goal in the second half of the match versus Leicester City.

Although the £37.8m-rated forward has netted three times in five Premier League appearances so far this season (as per Transfermarkt), it appears his latest display hasn’t gone down well with those who cover the club closely.
