Celtic fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest transfer update surrounding Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy.

This comes after SPFL insider account @AgentScotland shared a post on Twitter saying that Celtic have apparently “agreed a deal” with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Duffy on a one-year loan deal. This comes after it was recently reported by Sky Sports that Celtic were close to signing the defender on loan.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

The Scottish football news Twitter account, which has a following of over 42,000, also added that Celtic have reached an agreement with Brighton over the structure of the deal, with recent reports claiming that the Premier League had initially wanted a £2m loan fee to prise Duffy from the south coast.

Sky Sports had recently reported that Celtic were set to pay ‘a large chunk’ of the defender’s £45,000-per-week wages, but this latest claim suggests talks have progressed since, with the Hoops paying the Irishman’s full salary and are paying the Seagulls a £1.5m loan fee.

Considering there has been no official movement from either club, it remains to be seen whether all parties have indeed agreed a deal – but it seems clear that these Celtic fans like the sound of the alleged agreement.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Celtic fans who were quick to share their thoughts on this latest update.

Here’s a sample of Celtic fans responding to the post:

The 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £8.55 million, signed to Brighton back in the 2016 summer transfer window from Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £4.73 million.

Since then, the Irishman has made a total of 130 appearances for the Premier League club in which he has managed to score eight goals and provide five assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw Duffy make 19 league appearances for Brighton in which he earned himself a season rating of 6.71/10, making him their joint fifth-highest rated player for the campaign (per WhoScored).

Now that this Twitter page has revealed this alleged news, this sparked a big reaction and paved the way for lots of Celtic fans to share their thoughts on the potential deal.

However, there were some Hoops fans responding to the post who weren’t as eager to see Duffy join the club as others were.

It appears that while the majority of these Celtic fans are quite pleased by this potential loan deal for Duffy, there are some out there who don’t think this would be a good move for the club.

Only time will tell if Duffy does indeed make the move to Celtic and if he can be a good fit in Neil Lennon’s side or not.
