BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes joined Stephen Goldsmith and Gareth Barker on the latest edition of the Wise Men Say podcast to discuss all things Sunderland and the panel spent some time discussing William Storey and his Black Cats takeover bid during the show.

Current Sunderland owner Stewart Donald spoke to the BBC in July to confirm that he is “desperately trying” to sell the North East club and Storey launched his bid to buy the Black Cats in that same month.

After he recently revealed on BBC Radio Newcastle that talks are ‘progressing well’ with regard to the sale of Sunderland (via Mark Donnelly), Barnes shared his thoughts on Storey’s takeover bid during this recent edition of the Wise Men Say podcast.

He said: “From my own point of view, I think what he had to say when he was interviewed on Radio Newcastle didn’t really tell us anything.

“Also, I think now, if you read his latest tweets – ‘I hope my bid is accepted’ – well, hang on a minute, if the bid is about to go to the EFL for a right and proper owners’ test, the bid’s already in there, so that cannot be William Storey.

“From my personal point of view, I think it’s fantasy.

“I seriously don’t consider him a viable buyer. I wouldn’t say, at this juncture, he’s a serious player, by any stretch of the imagination.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, as is evident from what Barnes had to say about Storey and his Black Cats takeover bid during this podcast appearance, he doesn’t believe that Storey is very likely at all to actually complete a takeover of Sunderland.

With Barnes recently claiming that there are ‘hopes’ that the takeover ‘can be completed by the end of the month’ (as per Mark Donnelly) hopefully, for Black Cats supporters, the identity of this buyer becomes clearer soon, as it may be fair to say that the club’s fans deserve to know what is going on with regards to this takeover.
