David Wren, Iain Duff and Ross Benn discussed all things Rangers on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast and during the show, the panel spent some time talking about Gers forward Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos joined Rangers from HJK Helsinki for £1.08m back in the summer of 2017. In his first season at Ibrox, the Colombian forward was the Glasgow-based club’s joint-top goalscorer in all competitions, netting on a total of 18 occasions that term.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% in this Rangers 2019/20 season quiz. First up, which French side did Rangers beat at Ibrox 4-0 in a pre-season friendly?

In the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, Morelos scored 30 and 29 goals respectively in all competitions, ending both of those campaigns as the Gers’ top goalscorer.

This highlights how much of a significant role the 24-year-old has played for Rangers in recent seasons, however, there has been plenty of speculation over the player’s future in recent months.

French Ligue 1 side Lille are one of the clubs who are said to have shown interest in Morelos during the current transfer window and they have reportedly had multiple bids rejected for the player.

However, while he remains a Rangers player at present, Morelos has not featured in either of the Gers’ last two league games and during this recent edition of the Gersnet podcast, Duff spent some time talking about Morelos and his future.

He shared that he believes the Colombian forward should be sold “sooner rather than later,” saying: “I think we’d all agree that in an ideal world, we’d want him to stay, but the fact he’s being written off is more to do with the fact that he doesn’t want to be here.

“What appears to be the nature of his personality is when he doesn’t want to do something, it’s not quite ‘downing tools’, but his attitude changes completely.

“I think everyone really just wants the players that we’ve got to be giving everything in training and on the pitch and I think there’s a perception that Morelos isn’t doing that, so we might as well get rid of him sooner rather than later and focus on the guys that we’ve got.”

Would Rangers be better off without Morelos if he doesn't want to be at the club?

YES, SELL HIM

YES, SELL HIM

NO, WE NEED HIM

NO, WE NEED HIM

TIF Thoughts…

So, judging by Duff’s comments during this podcast, it seems that while he would like Morelos to remain at Ibrox, he believes that the player is not giving 100% for the club at present and as a result, he believes that they would be better off without him.

Morelos got his 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign off to a good start, making four goal contributions in Rangers’ first two games of the season, however, he didn’t make a goal contribution in either of his last two league appearances for the Gers and his WhoScored match ratings also suggest that his performance dipped in those last two Premiership games.

With that in mind, we feel that Duff may be right in saying that Morelos is not at his best right now and if the player simply doesn’t want to be at Ibrox any longer, then we agree that the Gers might be better off cashing in on him now and reinvesting in the playing squad.
