Pundit Kevin Graham has recently made a claim about Celtic’s links with a move to sign Preston defender Ben Davies.

Graham was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. They discussed potential Celtic transfers and one player that they talked about was Davies. Graham believes that the reports suggesting that Celtic could sign Davies on a pre-contract deal don’t have ‘much logic’.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

The Scottish Sun has reported that Neil Lennon is ‘a long-term admirer’ of Davies and the Hoops are ‘in pole position’ to sign the defender for free, deeming it ‘likely’ that the player will agree a deal in January on a pre-contract arrangement.

When talking about these rumours, Graham said that the move doesn’t ‘sit right’ and it doesn’t have lacks sense.

He said: “That seems a bit of a leap. There doesn’t seem to be much planning. It doesn’t make much logic. If you’re trying to join dots, it doesn’t join dots.

Should Celtic sign Ben Davies?

“The way that we work, it doesn’t seem to sit right, but then, the way the rumours came, it has been quite a strong source. So you’re going – wait a minute, they’re claiming that talks have went on.”

TIF Thoughts…

Davies, who is valued at £2.16m, has been a regular for Preston since the 2017/18 campaign and has played in each of the club’s two opening Championship games for the club this season (as per Transfermarkt).

Davies is a centre-back by trade but can play at left-back as well. Celtic currently have just one out-and-out option for the left-back position – Greg Taylor. Elsewhere, despite having four recognised centre-back options, Celtic have opted for a back three in recent games, so they might need some more depth in that part of the pitch.

Therefore, Davies could be a worthy addition to the Celtic side in the future and it would make sense for the Hoops to go after him.
