Pundit Peter Martin has recently made a claim about Ryan Christie and his future at Celtic.

Martin was recently hosting the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed many issues in Scottish football. They focused on the futures of many Celtic players and Christie was one of the players that they talked about. Martin compared the midfielder to Stuart Armstrong and stated that he is aware of rumours that he could be looking for a Premier League move in the future.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Christie has been a regular for the Bhoys in the 2020/21 campaign so far. He has played six games in all competitions and has contributed to as many as four goals already (as per Transfermarkt).

When questioned on Christie’s future, Martin discussed whether he could be looking at leaving Celtic soon. He believes that the midfielder might be looking for a move to the Premier League at some point. He compared Christie to Armstrong since the Southampton man had left Parkhead to join the Premier League club.

Is Ryan Christie a future Premier League player?

Yes, he is

Yes, he is

No, he's not

No, he's not

Martin said: “I think Ryan Christie falls into that Stuart Armstrong bracket. There will come a time when he [says] ‘I want to try and go in the [Premier League]. That’s the kind of rumour I’ve heard anyway.”

TIF Thoughts…

Christie had impressed in the qualifying stages of the UEFA Champions League and has done well in the Premiership for Celtic. He has played four games in the league and has racked up a very good WhoScored rating of 7.71. In the qualifying stages of the Champions League, he directly contributed to two goals in just as many games.

This shows that he indeed is a quality player and adds a lot of goals to the team. Christie’s father has already talked about a potential move to the Premier League and he said that the midfielder ‘could play’ at Premier League level in the future.

No clubs have been linked with a move for him yet, but it will be interesting to see how Celtic react if teams make offers for the midfielder.
