Journalist David Walton has recently been discussing the performance of James Forrest in Celtic’s 2-1 win over St. Mirren recently.

Walton was a guest on the latest episode of the 67HailHail YouTube channel and the panel discussed multiple aspects of the game on Wednesday evening. Walton talked about how Forrest played and he wasn’t too happy with the Scotsman’s performance, despite the fact that he scored a goal. Forrest is currently valued at £7.2m.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Forrest’s goal turned out to be the winner for Neil Lennon’s men. Lee Erwin had handed St. Mirren the lead in the third minute of the tie and Shane Duffy equalised, scoring his second goal for Celtic in just as many games (as per BBC Sport).

Walton wasn’t too impressed with how Forrest played, despite him helping the club pick up all three points at St. Mirren.

He said: “Forrest, if we are being honest, was poor for me tonight. I think he is in a poor run of form.

Was Forrest poor against St. Mirren?

No

“He came up when we needed him. Plenty to work on for Forrest’s perspective, though, just not seeing it with him at the minute. I think Neil’s trying to play him on either side to try and find out where he’s going to be performing at his best this season. Hopefully, the goal does him wonders but again, in the second half, I don’t think he was that great.”

TIF Thoughts…

Forrest, currently 29, has made eight appearances in all competitions for Celtic this season. In the Premiership, he has now directly contributed to three goals (as per Transfermarkt).

His performance yesterday saw him pick up a WhoScored rating of 7.29/10 against St. Mirren. Only three Celtic players picked up better ratings than him in the game on Wednesday.

So he clearly had a very good game and his overall rating for the season stands at an impressive 7.35 as well. So perhaps, the criticism of him is unjustified.
