Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently given his opinion about Leigh Griffiths and the striker’s situation at Parkhead.
Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast. He discussed multiple issues involving the Hoops and one thing that he focused on was the situation of Griffiths. He described the situation surrounding the striker as a ‘complete shambles’ and he believes that he has been a ‘massive disappointment’.
Griffiths is currently injured, but had turned up for Celtic’s pre-season training in an overweight condition, which saw him left out of the club’s warm-up programme in France, with Neil Lennon publicly criticising him. More recently, photos had emerged of the striker hosting a party and as a result, Griffiths was ‘reminded of his responsibilities’.
When discussing Celtic’s striker situation, Sutton chose to focus on Griffiths and he had some criticism for the Scotsman.
He said: “You have to go back and look at the Leigh Griffiths situation. That was a complete shambles and the whole Griffiths attitude throughout the lockdown has been a massive, massive disappointment.”

Griffiths, who is valued at £1.8m, is yet to make a single appearance for the Hoops in the 2020/21 season. He has had a fair share of injury issues in the past and had taken some time out to deal with mental health issues in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.
Despite him facing injury issues in the first half of the 2019/20 season, Griffiths was in fine form in the latter part of the campaign. He found the net seven times in the league during that time, also grabbing three assists following the turn of the year.
It shows that he can be a valuable player when he is fit. While recent weeks have been problematic, Celtic fans should look at last season and realise that Griffiths may still turn out to be an important player for the Hoops whenever he returns to action.
