Pundit Kevin Graham has recently made a claim about Celtic winger Mikey Johnston and his future at Parkhead.

Graham was a guest on the latest episode of A Celtic State of Mind and the panel discussed many issues involving the Hoops during the podcast. One topic that they focused on was Johnston and his future at Parkhead. Graham believes that once Johnston comes back to fitness, the 21-year-old winger will be “like a new signing” for the Bhoys.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

A few weeks ago, Neil Lennon confirmed that Johnston, who is currently valued at £900k, according to Transfermarkt, had undergone surgery and the club were looking at a time frame of three to five weeks for the Scotsman to return to full fitness for the first-team.

Graham had praise for the player and shared that he believes that he could be “like a new signing” for Celtic when he returns to full fitness.

He said: “He’s kind of [fallen] off the radar and when we’re discussing squad options, nobody’s really mentioning him because he has been out for so long.

“Let’s have the old cliche – getting him back is going to be like a new signing. I like him, I think he’s got a bit of talent, I think he’s been much maligned, really.

“He’s got a lot to learn, he’s still a young lad, I like his tricks, he looks like a Celtic player.

“He could be a Celtic player for life, this lad, if he wants to be.”

TIF Thoughts…

Johnston faced two injuries last season as well, as he missed as many as 20 games due to injury. Despite that, he played 21 games in all competitions and contributed to as many as 12 goals for the Bhoys. In the Premiership, he played 11 games and contributed to six goals (as per Transfermarkt).

This shows that Johnston can be a pretty capable player when he is fit and can be a regular contributor to goals as well. Considering the fact that Mohamed Elyounoussi happens to be Celtic’s only other out-and-out left-wing option right now, Johnston’s return will add depth in that part of the pitch. So because of all that, it is fair to say that Johnston might indeed be like a new signing whenever he returns.
