Pundit Kevin Graham has recently made a claim about Kristoffer Ajer and his future at Celtic.

Graham was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. They discussed potential transfers for the Hoops and one player that they focused on was the Norwegian defender. Graham believes that Ajer could become a £50 million player in the future and a £15 million fee is a drop in the ocean for clubs that want him.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Sky Italia recently reported that Milan are expected to make contact with Ajer’s agents this week, and that the player is valued at €15 million (£13.7 million) by the Hoops.

Graham talked about Ajer and said that the defender could become worth a lot more than that in the future.

He said: “He’s been playing professional football since he’d been 15 years old. He’s had seven years playing professional football at a decent level and clubs will be looking at that going, ‘if he goes to a better league, he’ll develop again.’

Can Ajer become a £50 million player in the future?

“For fans who maybe say, ‘I don’t see a £15 million player in there’, well there’s maybe not a £15 million player in there just now, but what your AC Milans or maybe some of your English clubs are saying [is] there’s a £50 million player in there. When they look at his progress over the last seven years, they’re not buying a £15 million player, they are buying a potential £50 million player – and that’s what they’re seeing. These clubs – your English clubs, your Italian clubs – £15 million is a drop in the ocean to them.”

TIF Thoughts…

Ajer has been a regular for the Bhoys this season, having made eight appearances in all competitions. In the Premiership, he has racked up an impressive match rating of 7.33/10 (as per WhoScored) and has been the club’s seventh-best performer in the league campaign.

It shows how important a player Ajer is for the Bhoys, but if he really does have the potential to become a £50 million player, the Hoops may want to earn as much as they can from a potential sale. He is currently valued at only £3.6m by Transfermarkt, so getting a fee around the reported €15 million (£13.7 million) mark might be a good deal for the Bhoys at this moment in time.
