Jonny McFarlane and Gavin Berry discussed all things Rangers on the most recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast and the journalists spent some time talking about Joe Aribo during the show.

Aribo is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury, with the £900k-rated midfielder missing each of the Gers’ last five Premiership games due to this issue.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Gers transfer quiz. According to Transfermarkt, the £4.5million signing of which player has been the club's most expensive signing so far this summer?

However, the 24-year-old started the Gers’ first three games of the 2020/21 league season, scoring once in those three games and earning an impressive overall WhoScored rating of 7.67 from those appearances, making him the Glasgow-based club’s third-highest rated player in the league this season.

Berry talked about the Nigeria international during this recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast and the journalist explained that he thinks Aribo’s absence in recent games has been “a big blow” for the Gers.

He said: “We can’t underestimate the loss of Aribo because – you’re talking about an injection of quality – he’s somebody who, the way he started the season, he looked so much better than his first year in Scotland and he is a guy who can make the difference. He has been a huge loss. That’s been a big blow for Steven Gerrard.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering that Aribo earned an overall WhoScored rating of 7.67 from his three league appearances at the start of this season, it may be understandable why Berry thinks that his absence through injury has been a significant loss for Gerrard’s side.

As per WhoScored, Aribo played an impressive average of three key passes per game in his three league games this term – more than any other Rangers player – while he also completed the second-highest number of dribbles per game (2.3) of any Gers player in the Premiership this season.

With that in mind, we feel that the midfielder has clearly had a positive impact on the Gers’ attack when he has played this season and so hopefully, for the Gers, he is not on the sidelines for too much longer.
