Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently given his opinion about Swiss striker Albian Ajeti.

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based side. They also talked about Ajeti and his abilities. Sutton had praise for the striker, labelling him as a ‘ruthless finisher’ before comparing the forward’s style to strike partner Odsonne Edouard.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Ajeti arrived at Celtic earlier this summer, joining the club on a permanent basis from Premier League side West Ham United. He scored for Celtic in their recent 3-2 win over Livingston in the Premiership to net his fourth league goal in five games.

Sutton had a lot of praise for Ajeti and highlighted his differences to Edouard.

Sutton said: “I think that he certainly knows where the goal is. At this moment in time, I see a different player than Odsonne Edouard, who has a far more rounded game; he’s a better link man. I think Ajeti needs somebody to really feed him with the opportunities where Edouard seems capable of turning, beating a man and scoring a different type of goal, but he looks to be a ruthless finisher, which is a really, really good sign.

Can Ajeti replace Edouard in the future?

“Because the Leigh Griffiths situation – it doesn’t look like that’s ever going to be resolved. So Celtic needed somebody like Ajeti.”

TIF Thoughts…

Ajeti has made seven appearances in all competitions this season and has already scored four goals, picking up a single assist for the Hoops.

The 23-year-old has picked up an average rating of 7.37/10 in the Premiership campaign and has been the club’s sixth-best player in the league (as per WhoScored).

It shows that the £4.32m-valued Ajeti has already made an impact at Parkhead, and with Leigh Griffiths yet to play this season, the Swiss striker has taken his opportunity well to add some important goals for the club. Therefore, he seems to have stepped up in Griffiths’ absence and it is no surprise that Sutton has a lot of praise for him.
