The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has recently discussed which position is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ ‘priority’ target in the transfer window.

In late August, it was revealed that Matt Doherty had transferred to Tottenham Hotspur and the Old Gold were on the receiving end of a £15.12m fee (per Transfermarkt).

That has left Nuno Espirito Santo with 17-year-old Luke Matheson and 22-year-old Oskar Buur as potential options for the right side of the defence.

Matheson has made zero appearances for Wolves’ senior side and Buur has only made four.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed Wolves’ recruitment and aired that right wing-back is a ‘priority’ area.

To kick off this quiz on Wolves' 2019/20 season, which side did the Old Gold's first win of the Premier League term come against?

He said: “Yeah, so [there has been] two additions in, [there will be] another one later this week and then right wing-back is the very clear priority for the rest of the window.

“And probably not too much [more] on top of that. I don’t mean to dampen expectations, but there won’t be [a lot more signings].

“As far as I know, at the moment, they’re not looking for a centre-half. That was one I thought that they’d look at this summer in terms of a proven first-team centre-half to maybe come in instead of [Romain] Saiss.

“As far as I’m aware, nobody’s currently being looked at as a centre-half. That’s not to say they won’t bring one in if the opportunity comes up, as it stands, right wing-back is the clear priority for the rest of the window.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, Wolves are not currently looking to recruit a centre-back and a right wing-back is the “priority” for the Old Gold.

Would you agree that right wing-back should be a priority area of recruitment for Wolves in this window?

Yes, we really need one

No, it's not that important

No, it's not that important

With the lack of experienced cover that the Molineux outfit has in that area of the pitch, Spiers’ claim will perhaps not come as a surprise for supporters.

However, with Doherty having been the Old Gold’s fifth-best performer during the 2019/20 Premier League season with a 6.99/10 average rating (per WhoScored), he will certainly take some replacing.
