The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has recently discussed football agent Jorge Mendes and his involvement with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Since 2017, the Old Gold have seen a meteoric rise from finishing 15th in the Championship to finishing seventh in the Premier League for a second season in a row last term (per Transfermarkt).
In an article for The Athletic by Spiers back in November 2019, the journalist claimed that Wolves’ recent accomplishments ‘simply wouldn’t have been possible’ without the help of Mendes.
However, the reporter does admit that the ‘rights and wrongs’ of the agent’s involvement at Molineux has been ‘widely debated’.
In the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed the relationship between the football club and Mendes further.
He said: “[Mendes is] right there, isn’t he? I’ve been talking about this for four years, the ethics of [his involvement with Wolves] are your personal preference as a fan, really – if you mind an agent having such power over a club.
“What you can’t argue with is his record in terms of bringing players to Wolves for the first team.
“There’s been a lot of under-23 flops, but first-team wise, it’s been an extremely high success rate and a lot of them have been extremely cheap and we’ll see in the next couple of years – I always say, it’s on the horizon with Mendes when, once these players move on and once Nuno [Espirito Santo] moves on, that’s when I’d worry.
“But for the time being, he’s bringing players of very good quality to Wolves.”

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes that there could be a point for Wolves fans to ‘worry’ in the future regarding Mendes’ involvement.
However, Spiers believes they should enjoy the players that the agent helps bring to Molineux for the time being.
