Podcaster Tom Edwards has recently discussed the potential of West Ham United’s English forward Jarrod Bowen.
The Hammers secured the services of the 23-year-old winger during the January transfer window earlier this year from now-League One side Hull City (per BBC).
Bowen put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the London Stadium until the summer of 2025 and arrived for a ‘£20m-plus deal‘.
Since signing for the Irons, the Englishman has made 15 West Ham appearances in which he has scored one goal and provided four assists for teammates (per Transfermarkt).
In the latest episode of the We Are West Ham Podcast, Edwards discussed the potential of the winger and made a claim regarding what he needs to do to be “gold dust” for the Hammers.
He said: “I think since his Hereford days, he wouldn’t have gone this long without scoring, or since when he first broke into the Hull side, he would never have gone this long without scoring.
“If you go a few games without scoring a goal, it starts coming on top of you and I think you start realising and feeling that pressure.
“I definitely, definitely think, you always hear [in] his interviews, he’s so keen to score, so keen to constantly tell everyone that he doesn’t think he’s ready for it or he wants to prove that he’s good enough for the level.
“He’s proved that, he just needs to relax [and] start taking chances because he gets in more positions than anyone I’ve seen play for us for a long time.
“If he just starts getting his head down and finding the back of the net and just being calm, and ice-cold like he was at Hull, I think we’ve got a 10/15-goal-a-season winger, which is gold dust in this league.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what Edwards had to say, he believes that Bowen could be a key player for the Hammers if he slightly changes his mentality so he remains calmer in matches.
Do you think Jarrod Bowen needs to be calmer during matches?
No, he's just been unlucky
Yes, he needs to stay calm
Certainly, during his time with Hull, the £22.5m-rated winger proved that he can be prolific as he netted a whopping 54 goals and provided 14 assists in 131 appearances (per Transfermarkt).
So, perhaps if Bowen can play with the mentality which he has evidently shown in the past, then he could be a big hit for the Irons, as Edwards suggested.
