The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas has recently discussed the transfer link between West Ham United and Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

As claimed in a recent report by the Evening Standard, the Hammers are supposedly weighing up making another transfer offer for the 27-year-old centre-back.

This comes after ‘defensive frailties‘ were exposed in the Irons’ 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in their opening Premier League fixture.

David Moyes has already seen a number of bids for the English defender get knocked back by the Clarets with the latest amounting to £30m after add-ons.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed the latest on Tarkowski and suggested he may not be worth what Burnley want for him.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “It’s just a case that the valuation’s just too extreme from Burnley. They want up to at least £50m for Tarkowski and it doesn’t make sense – it really doesn’t.

“He’s a good player, but he’s not worth that much money and just touching on another player who played well on his debut like Gabriel [Magalhaes], for example, for Arsenal.

“[He] cost the best part of £22m from Lille and he’s done really well and you’re thinking, £50m for someone like Tarkowski? Not worth it.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes that the Clarets are looking for around £50m for Tarkowski.

Should West Ham do all they can to try and sign James Tarkowski?

Yes, he'd be worth it

No, he's not that good

However, while it is stated in the Evening Standard’s report that Burnley ‘know they are in a strong negotiating position’, it is thought that a deal amounting to £30m before add-ons would be successful.

So, it may be that the North West club is not after as much for the centre-back as Thomas suggested.
