The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas has recently discussed the future of West Ham United’s English midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The 28-year-old middleman has been situated at the London Stadium since the summer of 2018 after he signed for the Irons on a free transfer from Arsenal (per Transfermarkt).

In his two seasons with the club, Wilshere has featured in just 18 matches for the Hammers in which he has bagged only one goal and one assist.

His time at the London Stadium has also been blighted by injuries as he has spent three lengthy periods sidelined through ankle and groin issues.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed the £4.32m-rated midfielder and aired his thoughts on him.

To kick-off this quiz on David Moyes on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at the London Stadium against?

He said: “It’s going to pain me to say this, but I feel like Jack Wilshere’s days are numbered as a West Ham player. He was so anonymous against Brentford.

“Honestly, there was one point in the game I was like, ‘Is Jack Wilshere even playing?’ He had no influence whatsoever.

“When [David] Moyes named Wilshere in the starting XI, you thought, ‘Oh, this is good. Nice to see Wilshere in the starting XI. Hopefully, he’ll have a point to prove and show [he’s] still a good player, this is what [he] can offer.’

“In the 45 minutes Jack Wilshere played, I didn’t see that at all. I didn’t see it one bit and there’s been interest from clubs in MLS.

“We’ve discussed in previous podcasts, you wonder whether that could be his next step now because, in terms of influencing games in the Premier League, I don’t even think Jack could do that anymore.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Thomas had to say, he clearly believes that Wilshere’s future with the Hammers is in doubt as he is no longer the player he was.

Do you think West Ham should be looking to sell Jack Wilshere this summer?

No, we should keep him

No, we should keep him

Yes, he's not good enough

Yes, he's not good enough

The fact that over the eight Premier League appearances Wilshere made for West Ham in the 2019/20 season, he delivered a weak 6.01/10 average rating (per WhoScored), that would certainly back up what the journalist had to say.

In fact, the average rating that the Englishman delivered during the most recent season was so poor that he was the second-worst performer for the Irons in the entire league campaign.

So, it will be interesting to see if the 28-year-old does depart the London Stadium for a Major League Soccer club in the near future.
